Misfires are usually one of four things — ignition (coils, plugs, leads), fuel (injector, fuel pressure), compression (valve, piston, head gasket), or sensor input (MAF, MAP, crank/cam sensor). The RPM and load it shows up at often narrows the cause significantly. We diagnose first, then fix.

Maybe, but usually no. Most overheating is thermostat, water pump, radiator, fan, or air in the system. We pressure test the cooling system, check for combustion gases in the coolant, and identify the actual cause. Driving on a head gasket leak is one of the few problems that gets dramatically worse the longer you wait.

Depends on the rest of the car. If the body, gearbox and electronics are in good shape and the engine has a discrete failure (worn bottom end, dropped valve), a rebuild can be the right answer. If the whole car is tired and you'll be replacing other major components soon anyway, a used engine or a different car often makes more sense. We'll give you our honest opinion.
